Call of Duty 4 on Android: what MDW1 Mobile is, what the demo includes, and how it runs on a phone
MDW1 Mobile is an unofficial port of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare that runs natively on Android. The free demo has the first two missions. Here is what to expect from the download, the controls and the frame rate.
People searching for Call of Duty 4 on Android usually find one of two things: an emulator that needs a strong PC game pack and a lot of patience, or a video of someone else's phone. MDW1 Mobile on Zodita is a third option. It is the classic 2007 campaign, rebuilt to run directly on the phone, with a free demo that anyone can install today.
What MDW1 Mobile is
MDW1 Mobile is a community port of the single-player campaign of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It is not an emulator, not a cloud stream and not a compatibility layer: the game code runs on the phone's own processor and graphics chip, and once it is installed it plays offline. The port is unofficial and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the game's publisher.
What the free demo includes
- F.N.G.: the training course at the SAS base, including the timed killhouse run
- Crew Expendable: the night boarding of the cargo ship in the Bering Strait, from the helicopter drop to the escape
- Touch controls built for the phone: move and look on the screen, with fire, aim, reload, grenade and sprint buttons
- Download size: about 915 MB, plus free space for the install
- Price: free. The demo stays free after the full version is on sale
How it runs
Our main test phone is a POCO X7 Pro with a Dimensity 8400 chip. In the F.N.G. training level it holds between 75 and 87 frames per second. The engine behind Call of Duty 4 was written for PCs of 2007, so a mid-range phone from the last few years has more than enough power; the game picks a quality tier from the hardware it finds. The floor is Android 8 or newer, 4 GB of memory and a 64-bit processor.
Two things are still being worked on. Controller support is not finished in MDW1 Mobile, so for now the game is played by touch. And this is an early build: if a mission does not start or the frame rate drops on your phone, send us the model from the app. Those reports decide which phones we tune for next.
The full campaign and the pre-order
The full version of MDW1 Mobile is in development. During the one-week pre-sale that runs until October 26 at 18:00 UTC, it can be pre-ordered on zodita.com for $14.31; the price after the pre-sale is $29.90. A pack with MDW 1, 2 and 3 is offered for $27 instead of $67. A pre-order locks in the price; the full campaign is delivered to your library when it ships.
How to install the demo
- Create a free account on zodita.com
- Install the Zodita app for Android from the app page
- Open MDW1 Mobile in your library and tap Install; the game installs as its own app
