Which phone runs Skyrim Mobile, Half-Life 2 and the other Zodita ports? Sizes and requirements

Every game on Zodita runs on the phone itself, so the phone matters. Here is what each port needs today: Android version, memory, download size and storage, in one place.

People ask us the same question in every language: will this run on my phone? The short answer is that an ordinary Android phone from the last few years is enough for the demos. The long answer, game by game, is below. Everything here is what the games need today; the requirements can change as the ports improve.

The baseline for every port

All Zodita games are built to run natively on the phone: no PC in the room, no cloud stream, no emulator or compatibility layer. The common floor is Android 8 or newer and 4 GB of memory. A 64-bit processor is required, which every phone sold in the last five years has. After the install, the games play offline; the internet is only needed to sign in, download and update.

The phone we test most on is a POCO X7 Pro (Dimensity 8400). On it, the MDW1 Mobile demo (Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare) holds 75 to 87 frames per second in the training level. Mid-range phones run the same demos with lower quality tiers, which the games pick automatically from the hardware they find.

Download size per game

  • Skyrim Mobile (demo, Helgen to Whiterun): about 1.7 GB
  • Half-Life 2 Mobile (free demo): about 1.9 GB
  • MDW1 Mobile (Call of Duty 4 demo, two missions): about 915 MB
  • F.E.A.R. Mobile (early access, three maps): about 1.1 GB
  • Max Payne 2 Mobile (early access, Part I): about 291 MB
  • Max Payne Mobile (early access, Part I chapters 1–2): about 200 MB
  • Bioshock 1 Mobile (demo, the lighthouse and Rapture): about 170 MB
  • PichBaz (our own 3D screw puzzle, early access): about 80 MB

Plan for roughly twice the download size in free storage while a game installs. Updates are delta updates: they download only what changed, not the whole game again.

What to expect on a mid-range phone

Skyrim Mobile and Half-Life 2 Mobile are the heaviest ports. Skyrim picks a quality tier from your phone's hardware; on a mid-range chip it lowers shadows and view distance to keep the frame rate playable. Half-Life 2 is lighter than its size suggests: the engine is twenty years old and the phone is far stronger than the PCs it was written for. The Max Payne and BioShock builds are early, so rough edges in those are about the port, not your phone.

Gaming handhelds and tablets

Android handhelds such as the Retroid Pocket and AYN Odin run the same builds, and testers have asked for native controller support on them. Today the games are built for touch; gamepad support exists in parts of Skyrim Mobile and is on the list for the rest. Tablets work like phones: the same Android and memory floor applies, and the larger screen helps with the touch controls.

How to try a demo

Create a free account on zodita.com, install the Zodita app, and the free demos appear in your library. Each game installs as its own app. If a game does not start on your phone, tell us the model: the crash reports we get from testers are what decide which phones we tune for next.
