Big question

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6: is this the chip that brings PC games to phones?

Qualcomm's new flagship and its Extreme variant land in phones from Xiaomi, Honor, Motorola, OnePlus and RedMagic this autumn. Here is what that means for ports like ours.

At its Snapdragon Summit in September Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and, for the first time, a higher-end Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.

Confirmed phones so far include the Honor Magic 9 Pro Max, Motorola Signature 27 and RedMagic 12 Pro on the Extreme chip, and the Xiaomi 18 Pro, OnePlus 16 and iQOO 16 on the standard one. The previous generation, Gen 5 with its Adreno 840 graphics, already matched Apple's A19 Pro in single-core benchmarks and beat it in multi-core.

For us the chip is only half the story. Our ports run on Godot with quality tiers chosen from your phone's hardware, so a 4 GB phone from 2021 and a Gen 6 flagship both play, at different settings. Faster chips move the top tier up; they do not decide who gets to play.
