Call of Duty 4 Android APK: what exists, what is fake, and how MDW1 Mobile runs the campaign natively
Activision never shipped Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Android phones. Here is what the «COD4 APK + OBB» downloads really are, and how MDW1 Mobile runs the campaign on the phone itself with a free demo.
Type «Call of Duty 4 Android APK» into a search engine and you get a wall of download sites promising the 2007 campaign in one file, usually with an OBB folder and a mirror link. The short truth: Activision never released Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Android phones. What runs on Android today is either a different Call of Duty (Mobile, Warzone Mobile), a stream from a PC, a Windows layer like Winlator, or an unofficial port. This guide sorts those out and explains how MDW1 Mobile, Zodita's community port of the campaign, actually works.
Is there an official Call of Duty 4 for Android?
No. Activision's official Android games are Call of Duty: Mobile (a free multiplayer game with its own maps and modes) and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. Neither contains the Modern Warfare campaign from 2007: no «Crew Expendable», no «All Ghillied Up», no Captain Price. The campaign exists on PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, the 2016 Remastered edition and Nintendo Switch, but not on phones.
What the «COD4 APK + OBB» sites are
Files advertised as a Call of Duty 4 APK with a multi-gigabyte OBB are one of three things: a renamed copy of Call of Duty: Mobile, a repack of a PC build wrapped in an emulator that needs a Windows layer anyway, or an installer nobody has checked for malware. None of them come with updates, and a broken OBB download after 2 GB is the usual ending. If a site asks you to «verify» through an offer wall before the file unlocks, close it.
The real options for the campaign on a phone
Streaming (Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW, Steam Link) works where the service and your connection allow it, but the game runs on a server, so latency and data use decide everything. Winlator and similar Windows layers can run the PC version on strong phones, with hours of setup and no touch controls. The third option is a native port: the game is rebuilt to run on the phone's ARM chip with a touch interface. That is what MDW1 Mobile is.
How MDW1 Mobile is different
MDW1 Mobile is Zodita's unofficial community port of the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare campaign. It runs natively on Android, offline, with touch controls for moving, aiming, firing, reloading and grenades, and a Bluetooth controller if you have one. It is not a loose APK: the Zodita app downloads the game in verified parts, checks every byte, installs it as its own app and later downloads only the changed pieces when an update arrives.
Demo and full version
The free demo covers the first two campaign missions. The full version is sold on the MDW1 Mobile game page for $6.99 (a 40 % cut from $11.65, until 30 November 2026) and unlocks the whole campaign with every update for as long as you keep your account.
What your phone needs
Android 8 or newer, a 64-bit chip, 4 GB of memory and about 1 GB of free storage (the download is 915 MB). A phone from the last five years with a Snapdragon 7-series or better runs it comfortably; a mid-range chip from 2020 onward is fine for the demo. The game plays offline after installing.
