Can the POCO X7 Pro run PC games? What we measured on our main test phone
The POCO X7 Pro is the phone we test every Zodita port on. Here is what its Dimensity 8400 chip does with Call of Duty 4, Skyrim, Half-Life 2 and Max Payne 2, and why its Mali graphics matter for Winlator users.
A question we see often: can a POCO X7 Pro run PC games? It is a fair one. The phone costs a fraction of a gaming laptop, yet its chip is far stronger than the PCs most classic games were written for. The POCO X7 Pro is also the phone our team tests every port on, so we can answer with our own numbers rather than guesses.
The hardware in short
- Chip: MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra, eight cores, built on a 4 nm process
- Graphics: Arm Mali-G720
- Memory: 8 or 12 GB, depending on the model
- Screen: 6.67-inch AMOLED, 2712 by 1220 pixels, up to 120 Hz
- Battery: 6,000 mAh on the global model
What we measured
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, in our MDW1 Mobile port, holds between 75 and 87 frames per second in the F.N.G. training level on the POCO X7 Pro. That is the number we publish because it is the one we have measured and repeated. The engine behind Call of Duty 4 was written for PCs of 2007, so the phone has headroom to spare.
Skyrim Mobile, Half-Life 2 Mobile, Max Payne 2 Mobile and the other ports are tested on the same phone. Our target for every port is that it stays comfortably playable on this phone. We will add frame-rate numbers for the other games here when we have measured them the same way, rather than quote estimates.
Native ports versus Winlator on this phone
Many guides to PC games on Android assume a Snapdragon phone with Adreno graphics, because the open Turnip driver that Winlator and GameHub rely on is made for Adreno. The POCO X7 Pro uses Mali graphics instead, so Wine-based apps have fewer driver options on it and results vary more from game to game.
Native ports do not have that problem. Each game is compiled for Android and talks to the phone's graphics through the normal Android drivers, so a Mali phone and an Adreno phone run the same build. That is one reason the POCO X7 Pro is a good everyday test: if a port runs well here, it runs well on most current mid-range phones.
